STUDENT HANDBOOK

School Traffic Information
  • All traffic should enter from Chapel Hill Road and veer to the right of the school.  Please respect one-way signs.  Visitor parking is on the far right.
  • In all situations on school property, the school bus always has the right-of-way.
  • A posted sign indicates where the car train wait starts in the afternoon.  The train will move forward when signaled by a staff member on duty.  All car riders are dismissed from the entrance near the office.
  • All cars should have the student’s name and/or lunch number clearly displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle.  Staff members assisting car riders use this information to call your child to the school’s driveway.
  • Walkers are asked to walk directly home without unnecessary stops.
  • Students crossing Hwy 54/Chapel Hill Road must cross with the Cary Police or Crossing Guard.
  • Students must cross the school parking area with the Safety Patrol or staff members.
  • Parents and other family members are not permitted to congregate in the school lobby during dismissal times.  This allows for a safe and orderly dismissal process.
  • If students are dropped off at school, the entrance near the office is to be used, not the bus loading area.
  • Staff members and safety patrol members are on duty at the arrival/departure points to insure the safety of our students during arrival and dismissal times.

Bus Transportation

The Wake County School System Transportation Department assigns students to buses and bus stops.  A transportation supervisor, who is located at East Cary Ninth Grade Center, is assigned to the Cary area.  If you ever have concerns about routes, times, stops or drivers, contact the department by calling 460-3517.

Transportation Changes

The Northwoods staff is obligated to be certain each child departs from school by their regular means of transportation.  Parents are required to inform the teacher in writing when there is any change in a child’s usual routine.  Without a note, students will be sent home via their normal transportation mode.

Students are normally not allowed to ride a bus to which they are not assigned.  It is not possible to allow students to ride buses in order to accommodate visits, parties, etc.  Any requests for changes in bus transportation need to be approved by the assistant principal or principal.

Bus drivers cannot change routes and/or stops.  Transportation forms for requesting a change are available in the school office.  Once completed, they are sent to the Transportation Office for approval or denial.
